SLOW MELODY

March 29th 2008 saw the first ever Skelmersdale Slow Melody Competition. 25 children competed in the 4 age sections.
The competition, held at the Glenburn Arts Theatre in Skelmersdale proved an excellent venue to allow the young people of Skelmersdale and West Lancashire to really shine.
The adjudicator for the event was Mr John Doyle, who up until recently was the flugel horn player for the world famous Black Dyke Band. John provided the children with instructive and encouraging feedback and gave out some valuable advice to help the young brass players to improve.
All of the children had put lots of hard work into practicing for the competition. Each and every one of them performed to a very high standard in what must have been a very new and nervous situation. All of their families, friends and band leaders must feel very proud of what they achieved.
Many thanks must be given to the Co-operative Bank for generously agreeing to sponsor the event and trophies. Thanks also to Mr John Doyle for kindly giving up his Saturday morning and being an inspirational adjudicator. Finally, thanks to Mr Chris Upton from the Birch Green Brass Band for helping with the organisation of the competition.
A Gala Concert featuring the winners of the competition took place on Wednesday 2nd April 2008 at the Skelmersdale Ecumenical Centre, starting at 7:30pm.
The concert also starred the Skelmersdale Prize Band, the West Lancashire Youth Brass Band and the Birch Green Brass Band.
The results of the slow melody contest are posted on our news page.
Thanks again to all involved.
