12 HOUR SPONSORED SKATE!: On 11th October flugel player Ellen will be skating for 12 hours to raise money for The Walton Neurology Centre and Motor Neurone Disease Association. SOUTHPORT INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL: As always the band really enjoyed performing at Southport International Festival. Thank you for inviting us back and we're already looking forward to next years festival!

JOINT CONCERT: On 6th September the band performed at a joint concert with Hesketh Bank Silver Band and Banks Brass Band. The event was brilliantly organised and it was good fun performing alongside both bands. Thanks to everyone involved!

WELL DONE JO!: Our superb trombonist Jo Moss braved the weather to walk Snowden, raising money for British Heart Foundation. Well done Jo and thanks to all sponsors!

UPCOMING CONCERT: On Saturday 6th September the band will be playing in a joint concert with Hesketh Bank Silver band and Banks Brass Band. Join us at Banks Leisure Centre for entertainment from the three bands starting at 7:30. Tickets cost £6 (under 18s free) and are available from members of the band.

Congratulations: Massive congratulations to BBb bass player Tom Lynan and our amazing roadie Rosie Cunliffe on their engagement. 

Bowling Social: The band, youth band and friends enjoyed a brill night bowling. Well done to percussion player Phil Staples for bowling the highest score and to trombone player Jo Moss for being the best at being the worst!

Millstone Rocks: The band really enjoyed being part of Millstone Rocks. The festival was organised by The Millstone Pub in Golborne for the Braiden-Lee Prescott Appeal, raising money for the charity The Neuroblastoma Children's Cancer Alliance. It was a great event and even better to support such a worthy cause. 


Well Done J-P and Dan!: Massive congratulations to Jon-Paul Coulson for completing the 40 mile walk from Keswick to Barrow in a great time of 9 hours 44 minutes and to Dan Miller who finished in 6th place (out of over 2000) with an impressive 5 hours 7 minutes...we're pretty sure he was spurred on by the pie and peas waiting for him at the finish line! As if walking/running a grueling 40 miles wasn't enough they had to compete with some tough weather too. Well done to the both of you! Don't forget to sponsor them as generously as you can, thank you!  


J-P and Dan's 40 mile walk: On Saturday 10th May, Jon-Paul Coulson and Dan Miller will be walking/running 40 miles from Keswick to Barrow. They are raising money for the band so please sponsor them! You can do so using the sponsor form in the bandroom, speak to a player or email We wish J-P, Dan and all other walkers the very best of luck and hope the weather is kind to them!

St. George's Day Parade: Our first march of the season was leading the procession of local Scout groups in the St. George's Day Parade in Ormskirk. It was an enjoyable day, and the sun was out! We're now looking forward to our next marches.


Welcome: The band would like to offer a warm welcome to Davinia Oldham who joins us on 2nd horn.  

Congratulations:  The band would like to offer congratulations to Chris Hibberd for passing his driving test at the first attempt. well done! 

Congratulations:  The band would like to offer congratulations to Principal Cornet player Sara Orrell on her engagement to Daniel Miller.  We wish them both a happy life together. 

3rd Place at Areas: On March 9th the band travelled to Blackpool Winter Gardens to compete at the North West Regional Championships. Playing Three Spanish Impressions the band were thrilled to be placed 3rd out of 16 bands in the 4th section. We were pleased with our performance and received positive comments. The band are working hard towards moving back up to 3rd section and this is a very promising start...well done everyone! 


Website:  As from March 2014, our website is now fully operational with the additional feature of "Music and Podcast".   We welcome any new items or ideas for the website from our members and friends.


Welcome: The band would like to offer a warm welcome to four new players.  Olivia Lynan and Becky Marsh on cornet; Tom Lynan on bass and Jo Male on percussion.  We wish them all continued enjoyment with the band. 

St. Michael's Church: The band enjoyed playing at St. Michael's Church, Dalton.  It was lovely to play to such an appreciative audience and we look forward to playing at the Dalton Gardens Open Day on June 8th.


Martin Kerfoot:  The band would like to thank Martin for all his dedication and loyalty during the past three years. Martin is now moving on to pastures new and we wish him all the luck for the future.   

Happy 50th Birthday Diane!: The band would like to wish Diane Chapman a very happy 50th birthday! Diane is our Musical Director's mum and often helps out the band playing at concerts and contests. 

New Year, New News Page: The band would like to wish it's players and supporters a very happy New Year! Thanks for your continued support and hard work. Following our New Year tradition we have set up a sparkly new news page for 2014! You can still view news from 2013 and previous years by following the tabs at the top of the page (hover over 'NEWS' and a drop-down menu should appear). The band are busy preparing for upcoming contests and we have lots of concerts coming up too so keep checking the events calendar for updates.
